And it was called yellow...

“There is an excess of yellow in the world,” he said.

“Huh? What? "she asked
“I think that the colour yellow is in abundance in the world. It is dominant,” he said.

“And why do you say that?” she asked, while dusting the sand off her kurta.

“Look around and tell me in how many places do you see the colour yellow?” he asked while taking her hand.

She looked at him and saw that he had the “I-know-I-am-right-look” on his face. As always

Standing on a quiet beach in Calicut, she decided to test what he said. And prove him wrong.

In her head she counted all the 'yellow' things she could see.

The street light opposite the beach, a jewellery brand hoarding, the autorickshaw speeding by, a tiny boat bobbing far away in the sea, the bulb hanging in the cart of the man selling raw mangoes stored in vinegar, a little girls dress… all these things were yellow.

She stopped counting and turned to him. She saw him staring at her, the all-knowing-smile playing on his lips. The smile she loved, but never told him.

Walking back, he took her hand and sang a Coldplay song, the one he would he would later say, reminded him of her.

"I swam across, I jumped across for you, Oh what a thing to do, Cause you were all yellow.
I came along, I wrote a song for you, and all the things you do.
And it was called yellow."

“You forgot to count your yellow chappals!” He later whispered while taking her into his arms.

  1. Easy love. Easy evening. That's a scene so rare in real life, isn't it? Beautiful.

  2. I love it...Your writing is amazing...and it flows right from the person you are...

When she was just a girl
    She expected the world
But it flew away from her reach so
She ran away in her sleep
    And dreamed of
    Para-para-paradise, Para-para-paradise, Para-para-paradise
Every time she closed her eyes
